Botanical
Drawings series
The Botanicals are actually an extension of the Human Equations series. Mathematical symbols and equations are again used, but in connection with botanical subjects, as I look back to my earlier background in science. They are all original, one of a kind works on paper, and are created using pen and ink, ink washes, watercolor washes, tinted gesso, and prismacolor pencils. The images are depicted in a somewhat undefined space using various proportions and perspectives. What goes on below the ground is given equal importance with that above ground and offers an appearance of being old and distressed. The subject matter for the Botanicals can be found within a few hundred feet of my studio. |
